Transition Planning Commission

Please see letter below regarding Transition Planning Commission Meeting on Jan 10th.

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!

On behalf of the Transition Planning Commission (TPC), we are excited to reach out to you to provide an opportunity to engage in the planned merger. We believe that your input is critical to the success of this merger, and we are committed to hearing your voice “early and often.” First, we want to share a few facts regarding the planned 2013 MCS/SCS merger. An additional information sheet has been provided that includes many of the "basics." You have probably seen and read this already, but we believe it is important enough to repeat. At this early point in the process, we are still in the planning stage, and we don't know the full details that will be included in the transition plan, but please know as we have more information we will proactively provide it to you. We need to hear from you now to help guide our work.

As the fact sheet highlights, the TPC has been tasked with developing a comprehensive transition plan for the merger. During our last TPC meeting of 2011, we developed a set of principles that will guide our decisions through the planning process. These guiding principles are based on our collective aspirations for the new unified school district, as well as concerns shared by many, both on the TPC and in the broader community. These guiding principles, such as:

· Our students come first, and

· We believe parent engagement is essential

will be used as guideposts as we consider options and make recommendations about the merged district. We all aspire to create a district in which parents are critical decision-makers in their children's education, and we invite you to participate in the process to help us achieve this goal.

Throughout the planning process we will invite your input. We are currently scheduling a series of town halls and other forums in your community that will be held over the next few months. The first of these forums will be held on January 10, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the Collierville United Methodist Poplar Sanctuary (454 W. Poplar Ave, Collierville, TN 38017).

Please know that this is only the first of several events we will facilitate. We will continue to provide opportunities for you to share your experience and perspective with us, and we hope you will be an active participant in this important process.

We look forward to hearing from you in this process.

Best,

Jim Boyd and Kenya Bradshaw
